What Is The DAWN?

The Development Advocacy welfare Network, The DAWN is a duly registered, apolitical, “not-for-profit” socio-professional group, grounded in Regional solidarity and development.

The Head Office of The DAWN is located in Buea, Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon.

To facilitate work, the official address of the Association is; PO BOX 174, Limbe Subdivision, Fako Division, South West Region of Cameroon.

The area of jurisdiction of The DAWN Association is particularly the six Divisions of the South West Region.

However, The DAWN also operates in any part of the national territory where the INTEREST of the South West Region is under consideration.             

Its members believe that the new source of power is not money in the hands of a few but information in the hands of many.

The DAWN strives to promote  the role of information in the  development  of the South West Region through the establishment of innovative approaches in providing information and knowledge to local people and  communities in the six divisions of the region ,strengthen and empower them to  be among national  players in knowledge –based development.

Objectives

To assist local people and communities in the South West Region have access to adequate information and knowledge that can enable them drive and sustain their own development through education, training and advocacy by;

-Increasing awareness and Knowledge in communities.

-Improving and building new skills in communities.

-Changing individual behaviours and collective practices.

-Enhancing self-esteem and promoting self-efficacy among youth and women.

-Building consensus through raising public understanding and generating well-informed dialogue among development stakeholders in the South West Region.

-Civic Education

-Community Peace Building and Socio-political inclusion

-Advocacy

-Decentralization and Governance

-Education, training and employment

-Environmental   protection

-Community health

-Agriculture and food security     

Membership And Admission

Membership is open to any communicator who is a South Westerner by parentage and geographical origin; 20 years old and above who is willing and capable of adhering to the principles and objectives set out in the constitution; and who shall be willing and ready to contribute toward the realization of its objectives, provided always that there shall be no discrimination against any South Westerner on the basis of sex, age, tribe religion or political affiliation.
